COMMUNITY OUTREACH

Community Service Ministry

Our Prayer:

Loving presence, make us your instrument of love.  To bring our hearts, minds, and hands into service.  To bring forth ever expanding capacity at Spiritual Life Center to serve wherever needed.

We give in abundance, our time and talents because we know that you are the unlimited source of these gifts.  May the right people and opportunities come forward to manifest great deeds of service.  And so it is!

Our Vision Statement:

  1. To establish and promote ongoing community service as a basic tenet of spiritual practice at SLC.
  2. To co-create a sustainable program with the Board, ministers, staff and congregation.
  3. To increase connection and recognition within the SLC community through shared experiences.
  4. To be a force, promoting goodwill and peace.
  5. To actively offer opportunities for congregants to participate fully in the establishment of a robust, service program.

Who We Are:

We are active members of the ministry willing to attend regular meetings, coordinate with members of the community, and participate as project managers for service projects.  We research ideas for service projects and vote on which projects meet the vision for this ministry.  We coordinate with service partner organizations, plan, promote, lead and execute all areas of the project.  The group welcomes participation from any SLC member that would like to contribute project ideas or help   with a service project.

Members:

Jeannie Boulden, Deborah Costello, Cheryl Davies, Rachael Falsetti, Wendy Gibson, Michael Renaud, Jan Summers, Dan Thomas, Stephanie Turner, and Tori Anderson (Teen Representative)

When We Meet:

Meeting Dates: 2nd and 4th Thursday of every month

Recently Completed Projects:

The Habitat for Humanity Project - November 15, 2008

We did “table framing” and built walls at the Sacramento Habitat headquarters site.  During our break we shopped the Habitat for Humanity Re-Store for bargains on home improvement supplies.  A highlight of the day was working along side the family that will occupy the home when it is complete.  Ages 16 through 78, everyone learned to pound nails like a pro.
