SLC Board Update on the New Minister Search

We are pleased to provide an update from your SLC Board of Trustees regarding the progress of the new minister search. We wish to express our sincere gratitude to the New Minister Search Committee for their dedication, discretion, time, talents, and heart-centered recommendations that have brought us to the onsite visit phase of our Ministerial Search Process.

Please join us in appreciating the members of the New Minister Search Committee: Chair Carolyn Cochran, Monica Hart, Carol Manson, Naomi Maunders, Rev. Paul Sanchez, and Donna Sturla. Rev. Janée Marth also served as the Committee's Board Liaison. With significant input from the Search Committee, the Board has narrowed down the applications to two candidates (Rev. Dr. Rick Belous and Rev. Dr. Kim Clarity) who have been invited to visit SLC.

Mark Your Calendars: March 29-30 and April 12-13

Please save the dates to meet Rev. Dr. Rick Belous on March 29-30 and Rev. Dr. Kim Clarity on April 12-13. You can find each candidate's bio below, along with links to details about their workshops, Sunday Experience talks, and RSVP options for their Q&A sessions. Each candidate will spend three days at SLC, meeting with the Board and staff on Friday, conducting a Saturday morning workshop open to all, and providing the message and meditation for the Sunday Experience at the 9 and 11 a.m. services. Additionally, there will be a Q&A session with the congregation on Sunday afternoon. We encourage all congregants to seize these opportunities to get to know our candidates and provide feedback to the Board throughout the process.

MEET NEW MINISTER CANDIDATE REV. DR. RICK BELOUS

REV. DR. RICK BELOUS.jpg

Rev. Dr. Rick Belous

Rev. Dr. Rick Belous has been the Senior Minister at Unity centers in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Roanoke and Lynchburg, Virginia. He currently serves as an Advisor to Unity Worldwide Ministries. His passion is about Unity’s links to world religions and spiritual paths. Rick is a noted speaker who can bring home complex metaphysical principles and apply them to modern situations that we all face.

At all three of his previous spiritual centers he was able to significantly increase membership, and attract more Gen Xers, Millennials, and Gen Zers. This led to many more children and parents in the congregations, and a revitalization of Youth and Family Ministry programs.

He co-chaired the Unity Worldwide Ministries task force that reformed ministerial education. During Covid Rick’s church pioneered a model that was followed by many other Unity churches. They held “parking lot” services, and broadcast the audio into people’s FM car radios. “It was almost like a drive-in movie theater, only because of Covid we didn’t serve popcorn,” he notes.

Rick also has a passion for social justice and neighbor helping neighbor. For example, while he was in Lynchburg, the congregation put in and stocked an outdoor refrigerator which serves the community 24/7.

Prior to his call to ministry, Rick was the chief economist for the United Way movement. He has also served as an Advisor to two U.S. Presidential Commissions.

Rick was adjunct professor at George Washington University in business and economics, and he has authored and/or co-authored 13 books on a wide range of economic and social topics. He is a graduate of Columbia University, George Washington University, and Unity Institute & Seminary. He has a Ph.D. in economics and an M.A. in theology and religion.

Rick lives with his two daughters, and Sphinx (their cat).  His late wife, Debbie, made her transition several years ago from cancer. He loves reading, hiking, classical music, and the Grateful Dead.

"The Evolution of Spiritual Consciousness and What It Means for Us Today"

Join us for an interesting workshop, led by Rev. Dr. Rick Belous, that will explore the “who, what, and why” of the EVOLUTION OF SPIRITUAL CONSCIOUSNESS and how it is impacting the direction of the Unity movement, our understanding of the Bible and other spiritual writings, and current social trends.

"Lessons from the Laughing Buddha"

Message and Meditation by Rev. Dr. Rick Belous

Has this ever happened to you or someone you know? You thought you had outgrown or recovered from some negative behavior pattern. But there it is again nipping at your heels!

At the Sunday March 30 services, Rev. Dr. Rick Belous will suggest that the so-called Laughing Buddha— who lived in China 800 years after Jesus— has a lot to teach us concerning how to deal with these situations. “In fact, the Laughing Buddha is really one of the great grandfathers of New Thought,” Rev. Rick says. Join us for these services and have fewer things nipping at your heels.

MEET NEW MINISTER CANDIDATE REV. DR. KIM CLARITY

Kim Clarity head shot.jpg

Rev. Dr. Kim Clarity

Dr. Kim’s spiritual journey began in 1985 when she discovered Marianne Williamson’s Course in Miracles lectures in Santa Monica, shifting her path from fine dining executive management to a lifelong dedication to spirituality.

From 1999 to 2009, she co-founded and served as Senior Minister at the Spiritual Center for Positive Living in Cameron Park, CA, becoming a sought-after keynote speaker for New Thought Churches, conferences, and retreats. This led to the creation of Seeking Clarity Seminars in 2009, empowering individuals to transform their lives and providing career opportunities for spiritual coaches. As an Ordained Doctor of Spiritual Studies and Master Spiritual Life Coach, she worked with individuals, families, nonprofits, and businesses, guiding them toward personal transformation. In 2012, she co-founded the Clarity Academy of Spiritual Arts (C.A.S.A.) with her wife, Rev. Karen Grace. However, serious health challenges in 2015 led her into deep self-exploration and healing, where she discovered Gene Keys and The Golden Path by Richard Rudd, integrating their wisdom into her philosophy of life as an art form.

In 2020, after six years of personal healing, Dr. Kim and Rev. Karen founded Thriving with Clarity & Grace to inspire and empower others through personal growth and spiritual fulfillment. Now residing in Pollock Pines, CA, Dr. Kim enjoys holistic cooking, teaching food as medicine, and is affectionately known as "The Delicious Doula." She spends her mornings in sadhana (spiritual practice), kayaking in the Alpine mountains in summer, and walking by the lake with her Labradoodle, Jai. Music is her medicine, and she continues to offer Deep Dive Retreats, ceremonies, coaching, and creative endeavors, helping others embrace transformation and live with clarity and purpose.

"Living in Coherence" with Rev. Dr. Kim Clarity

Rev. Dr. Kim invites participants to soften the heart and open the mind through exploring the art of living in coherence—aligning mind, body, and spirit to cultivate presence, harmony, and deeper connection with oneself and others.

The journey continues with an exploration of Present Presence, delving into what it means to be truly aware and engaged in the now. Through experiential partner work, participants will practice mindful connection, enhancing their awareness of self and others.

A powerful  Quantum Meditation  session will guide participants into expanded states of consciousness, deepening their sense of unity and coherence. To integrate the experience, participants will have the opportunity to share insights and takeaways, reflecting on how they will carry these practices into daily life.

This workshop is an invitation to cultivate presence, deepen awareness, and step into a more harmonious way of being.
