Continue Where God Left Off

Updated: May 6, 2021

As we approach Mother's Day, I've been thinking about Divine Motherhood, the nurturing element of God, aka "The Force." In New Thought/Ancient Wisdom Teaching, one phrase is fundamental to its philosophy: "There is only One Power and One Presence in the Universe and in my life - God, the Good Omnipotent." Quantum physicists describe the same idea by noting, "Space is just a construct that gives the illusion that there are separate objects." Both statements come to the same conclusion that there is only one Reality, and everything in existence comes from that single Reality.

As human/spiritual beings, we have all the qualities of this One Power and Presence, and we are the highest manifestation of God or "The Force." The writers of the Creation Story in the Book of Genesis state that we are made in the image and likeness of God itself. In that symbolic tale, God says, "Let us make humankind in our image and according to our likeness." So, he created male and female.

The phrase "our image" does not suggest more than one Presence of God, a male God, and a female God. Instead, this Presence contains masculine energy (power, will, intellect, etc.) and feminine (intuition, compassion, love, etc.). For humanity to evolve to the next phase of its evolution, integrating the two energies is necessary. Now, more than ever, we must fully embrace both energies if we are to successfully navigate through the transformational changes our world is going through today.

The discords result from an imbalance between masculine and feminine energy. There is more emphasis on acquiring power at the expense of sharing, cooperation, and the affirmation of all life. Despite appearances, even though it may not be apparent, there is encouraging movement afoot. The world is crying out and moving toward expressing the divine wisdom and love inherent in the one Source.

Charles and Myrtle Fillmore, co-founders of the Unity Movement, wrote in their 1921 Statement of Faith these words: "I believe that the Holy Mother [the divine feminine] is now being restored to her righteousness in the world. And that she will reign equally with Jehovah [the divine masculine energy of God] in the heavens and the earth.”

As individuals spiritually made in the image and likeness of this one Reality, we are here to embody that truth and live out that energy in everything we do. As we celebrate the Spirit of Mother's Day this weekend, let us remember the importance of fully embracing the qualities of the Divine Mother in our lives and our world.

Peace and Blessings,

James
